Guidelines and Tips

When initial contact is made with the customer, we have a checklist of qualifications we discuss to see what the needs are and how they can be met. This can include what type of marketing piece are they looking for? How many are needed? Describe the interior decorating. How do guests order food – do they order at the counter or is it dine-in service? Every establishment has its own unique applications and we make suggestions that are the right fit to meet those needs.

When we design menus and other POS, we like to design based on the decor and vibe of the establishment. This way, we can ensure continuity of the brand and develop a piece the customer is proud to present to their customers.

Is there a website? What social media platforms are used? Let us know! We love to feature as much information as possible including those that draw attention to where there is the most exposure. We can be sure to feature the website address and the proper social media icons as well as delivery services participated in.
Customers can submit a high-resolution vector file in EPS, AI or PDF. If they only have a high resolution JPG format, we can determine if it is compatible for print and design.
Images found on the Internet cannot be used due to poor quality and copyright issues. If the customer has had professional photos taken of their food, please send the largest size file available as these will be high resolution files. If the customer decides to plate their dish and snap their own photos with a camera or smartphone, please send the largest size available; as long as the photos are not blurry, we will determine if they are compatible for design and print. For large files, the Design Suite agent can provide an up-link for file transfer.

Stock photos are generic photography that are stylized shots that are high resolution. These photos are licensed and purchased per customer specifications. Contact your Design Suite agent for pricing.

For initial design, we ask the customer to provide the content of their menu in a format that the text can easily copy and paste – these are text files like Microsoft Word or a PDF.

If you send a picture of the content from a previous menu or hand-written notes, please
be prepared for higher estimated design times.

Disposable
Standard text paper with a gloss coating. Application examples: takeout menus, disposable menus

CardStock
Basic, thick cardstock with a gloss coating. Application examples: menu inserts, table tents, table cards
Lamination

Typical lamination, printed on gloss card stock then laminated with a shinny and sturdy finish, easy wipe off Edge Seal-The lamination goes past the edge of the menu about .25”,essentially locking in the cardstock on the inside and making it waterproof.
Flush Trim – The excess lamination is trimmed off to the exact size of the menu, giving it a nice look but exposes the card stock in the middle; any moisture or grease can easily get in between the plastic layers

Polysynthetic
A matte finish, more flexible than lamination, a blend between paper and plastic that makes it waterproof, tear proof, easy wipe and long lasting. This won’t show fingerprints and greasy residue like the lamination.

Menu Boards
There are multiple price points for menu boards and depending on the application of the menu, your Design Suite agent can help determine the best fit for the customer. There are foam boards, corrugated signs and sintra material.

Electronic Files
The Design Suite is more than happy to offer design-only services without the need for print. Whether you need large displays for TV screens or simply need a copy for your website, we can help.
